Energy Takers!

amandarobinsontaylor@gmail.comWhat Are Energy Takers?

Energy takers come in many forms, and sometimes, they sneak into our dailylives without us realizing it. Here are some that I’ve personally encountered:

1.     ToxicRelationships: I had a friend who seemed to have something negative tosay about my choices. Her words left me feeling small whether it was my career, appearance, or even my dreams. If you have people who make you feel inadequate, they’re draining your energy.

2.     NegativeSelf-Talk: I used to think I’m not good enough for this or I’llnever be as successful as her. Sound familiar? The way we speak toourselves matters more than we think.

3.     Overcommitting:There was a time when I said ‘yes’ to everything—work projects, social events, family obligations. Eventually, I felt burnt out, running on empty with noenergy left for my own needs.

4.     UnhealthySocial Media Consumption: I’d scroll endlessly through social media, comparing my life to picture-perfect feeds. It made me feel like I wasn’t doingenough when, in reality, I was doing just fine.

5.     Lackof Boundaries: I used to feel guilty about saying no, so I let peopletake advantage of my time and kindness. Learning to set boundaries changedeverything.

6.     Focusingon the Past: Dwelling on past mistakes or regrets can keep you stuckand drain your mental energy, making it hard to move forward.

7.     InconsistentSleep: Poor sleep patterns left me groggy and less confident in mydecisions. A well-rested mind is a confident mind.

8.     Messand Clutter: A cluttered space often reflected a cluttered mind forme. Cleaning up my surroundings instantly boosted my mood and energy.

9.     SedentaryTime: Too much sitting made me feel sluggish. I noticed that moving mybody, even a short walk, helped me feel more energetic and self-assured.

10.  Overworking:I used to think productivity equaled worth. However, overworking only led toexhaustion and burnout, making me feel inadequate no matter how much Iaccomplished.

11.  JunkFood: I never realized how much my diet affected my energy andconfidence until I started nourishing my body with better choices.

12.  TheNews: Constantly consuming negative headlines left me feeling anxiousand drained. Limiting my news intake helped protect my peace.

13.  Stressand Fear: Living in a state of stress and fear made me hesitant totake action. Learning to manage stress and embrace challenges improved myoverall confidence.

Energy takers can sneak up on you, chipping away at your self-worth beforeyou even realize it. I found myself:

·       Constantlyfeeling mentally exhausted

·       Lookingfor validation from others instead of trusting myself

·       Holdingback on opportunities because I was scared of failing

·       Ineglected my own needs because I was too busy pleasing others

If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. When we allow energy takersto drain us, our confidence takes a hit because we’re left running on empty.

1.     IdentifyYour Energy Takers: Take a moment to reflect on what’s draining you.Write it down. Awareness is the first step.

2.     SetBoundaries: This was a game-changer for me. Saying ‘no’ without guilttook practice, but it was worth it.

3.     PracticeSelf-Compassion: I started treating myself like I would a closefriend, replacing negative thoughts with words of encouragement.

4.     PrioritizeRest and Self-Care: Your energy is precious. Make time for sleep, movement, and the things that make you feel good.

5.     SurroundingYourself with Supportive People: I made a conscious effort to buildrelationships with people who uplift me rather than drain me, and it changed mylife.
