What is Coliving?

What is Coliving?

It's a new way to rent.

Wikipedia defines coliving as "a type of intentional community providing shared housing for people with shared intentions. This may simply be coming together for activities such as meals and discussion in the common living areas, yet may extend to shared workspace and collective endeavours such as living more sustainably."

This episode unpacks that definition.

In short, a few of the things we look for when defining coliving (or co-living as some would spell it)

  • Mostly or fully furnished
  • Individual lease agreements
  • Flexible lease lengths
  • Designed around 'intentional' lifestyles
  • Inclusive pricing (rent, wifi, utilities all on one bill)

One of the ideas this episode explores is the intangible benefits of coliving. On a tour of Treehouse, a coliving space in Hollywood, we see how coliving can...

  • Make LA feel small (in a good way)
  • Establish meaningful friendships and business connections
  • Remove the need for a co-working space
  • Combat loneliness and depression

In short, coliving is more than just a room.
