Award winning podcast* 🥈. Talking about life as a British born Chinese (BBC)/British Asian. The struggles that I've had to deal with whilst growing up in my mum and dad's takeaway in the 1980s/1990s. My parents are immigrants from HK/China and moved to the UK when they were teenagers. I was brought up being Chinese at home and English when I was outside of home - it felt confusing at the time as I couldn't find a sense of belonging. But now I am much older, I am proud of my Chinese heritage and I am proud to be British. I just want to share my story with people.* Silver award at British Podcast Awards 2022 in 'Moment of the Year' category.

S2 Ep3: Our Chinatown Special | ESEA Heritage Month

I’m absolutely delighted to collaborate with Chinatown London for my latest episode where I talk to Lucy, Managing Director of See Woo Group and Emily who runs Cuppacha and Taiyakiya.

Lucy and Emily spoke about their journey of running a business in the heart of London.  It was  so nice to chat with them and share our experiences of what Chinatown London means to us and discussing how diverse it is with more and more ESEA shops and food stalls/restaurants opening.

For me, Chinatown London brings a lot of memories of when my mum and dad used to take me here when I was at school.  Shopping for dried vegetables that mum would put in her soup and buying endless supplies of Chinese bakery.  When I first moved to London in 2007, there were times when I missed my family, I would go to Chinatown London for comfort and it’s always been such a joyous place. I have Chinatown London to thank for my entire London experience.

In light of ESEA Heritage Month, Chinatown London have put together a campaign #OurChinatown to explore what Chinatown means to people who have stepped foot in Chinatown London.  What’s your greatest memory of Chinatown London? You can message me on Insta or email me chinesechippygirl@gmail.com 📧
