This week, Annie tells Phoebe all about Eleanor of Toledo, a Spanish noblewoman who became the world's first lady as the Duchess of Florence—the first wife of Cosimo I de' Medici. A keen businesswoman, she financed many of her husband's political campaigns and is credited with introducing tomatoes, amongst other herbs and vegetables, to Italy.
