Episode 52: Have You Ever Slapped Your Man?
The actor Jonny Depp has recently taken his ex wife Amber Heard to court for defamation. The case was brought because Mr Depp believes that Amber wrote an article that deliberately portrayed him as a domestic abuser even though the article did not mention him by name. During the trial Mr Depp has gone on to allege that it was in fact Miss Heard that was the domestic abuser and that he was the victim for many years. When Jonny revealed that Amber had once laid hands on him, her rebuttal was that this couldn't be considered in the same way as he is a man so any punches or hits she may have inflicted wouldn't of hurt him because he is a man. But what of this notion that when a woman hits a man, a man should show restraint and not hit back? Should the legal ramification physical abuse be the same for both men and women or should the differences in gender play a definitive role in determining who was at fault? Lastly is domestic violence against men taken seriously enough? we discuss in Episode 52.
