The Kinship and the Resistance consider each other “the enemy within” the dome, but with Joe McAlister’s help (very literally speaking), they are all soon without the dome. But the government comes in and wants to make sure that word of a thwarted alien invasion doesn’t get out to the general public. All the residents agree, and they are free to start living their lives again.

While Aktion has her caged, Christine unloads a lot of what’s going on to cell-mate Big Jim. It’s pretty clear that the dome’s appearance is due to Eva and her. But the way she refers to humans as something other than herself, and keeps referring to “my people”, you have to wonder who she is now (or who she thinks she is). Meanwhile, Barbie, Julia, and Junior struggle to catch up with the others, with Big Jim hot on their heels, while some dog seems to like following him around. (That’s can’t be good for the dog.)

Best-selling novelist Paul Sheldon is on his way home from his Colorado hideaway after completing his latest book, when he crashes his car in a freak blizzard. Paul is critically injured, but is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilkes, Paul's "number one fan", who takes Paul back to her remote house in the mountains (without bothering to tell anybody). After awakening from a 5 year coma - the result of a serious car accident on his way home from an outing with his girlfriend - high school teacher Johnny Smith finds that he has developed the ability to foretell events. When his doctor and confidant, Dr. Sam Weizak, touches him he has flashbacks to the trauma Weizak suffered when separated from his mother during World War II but also knows that the woman lives in a nearby city. Johnny also finds himself pining for his girlfriend, Sarah Bracknell, who has now married and has a young child. With his powers misunderstood, Johnny relocates and tries to put it all behind him, working out of his home as a tutor. However, when he shakes the hand of a young and upcoming political candidate, he is confronted with evidence that the man will, as President of the United States, launch a cataclysm that may destroy all of mankind. Barbie hits some black ice while driving, sending the ambulance on its side and impaling Julia. (Now he knows how those of us who live in Atlanta feel when we get an ice storm.) Big Jim and Junior’s relationship is (back) on ice, but Big Jim and Pauline’s relationship might just be thawing.

The egg arrives via air mail to Zenith, but you “can’t touch dis”. And Lyle arrives via slow boat to Chester’s Mill speaking of, what else, the End of the World(tm). Maybe that was his vision, but it seems more like self-directed prophecy.
