Sure there is an alien invasion and a resident expert, and a pop psychologist villain (played by a smooth 70s Leonard Nimoy); and yes, a fetching Brooke Adams as the capable botanist, and Donald Sutherland as a dishy Health inspector...but there are layers and layers here.
