TIP OF THE MONTH – Evacuation supplies for Cats
Hurricane season is approaching. So if you are in an area prone to hurricanes, NOW is the time to start planning what you will do with your cat when the storm strikes.
It's a good idea to put together a cat emergency disaster kit. Mind you, this is not to be confused with the disaster kit needed when your cat is the disaster maker. Make sure to rotate perishables with fresh items on a regular basis.
Here goes:

* Medications, medical records, and information sheet that lists any medical conditions or behavior problems. Make sure you store them in a waterproof container.
* Up-to-date photographs and descriptions of your cats.
* Collars, ID tags, leashes and cat harnesses.
* Cat carrier. One for each cat.
* Food and water for at least three days per pet, plus bowls for the food and water.
* Litter box and cat litter.
* Cat bed and toys are good stress reducers for your cat.
* Names and numbers of your veterinarian.
* Phone numbers of your friends nearby, in case you lose your cat.
* Make a list of boarding facilities and veterinary offices, incl. 24-hour telephone numbers.
* Find an evactuation site AHEAD of time. Most shelters don't accept pets. Make a list of pet-friendly places.
* Other useful items you may want: paper towels, spray cleaners trash bags, grooming items, handy wipes, bleach and othercleaning solutions.
* Oh! And don't forget to list a family member of friend who can assist you should become incapacitated.

Listener Comments
In response to my Cat Podcasts blog, Shelli wrote: “Hey Marc – there is also the Purina podcast, ‘Animal Advice'. It's not 100% dedicated to cats – in fact, sometimes you get the random ferret or iguana question – but it does have lots of cat stuff. I just found it a bit long to listen to (it's like an hour).”
Music Promotion for Cat Lovers
If you enjoy my music or this podcast, then I like to ask a small favor in each show. Because your help in promoting this album will insure there is a follow-up CD. Here is the music promotion tip of the week:
Post comments on iTunes. Comments and reviews help others to decide if something is worthwhile. Good, bad, whatever. Obviously, I like the good ones. But either way, I'd like to read your comments and others would too. So please post a comment.
