On what was meant to be her last day at the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, a heartworm-positive Siberian Husky named Sophie was rescued just hours before being euthanized. Despite her grim situation, Sophie remained calm and hopeful—qualities that moved founder Kathy Blackman to take action.
What started as a chance encounter quickly turned into a mission. Sophie’s quiet resilience and loving spirit inspired the creation of Sophie’s Circle, a nonprofit dedicated to saving the lives of homeless and abused animals.
