Jeff Park of the Alberta Parents’ Union on Choice in Education

Parents are the primary educators of their children. They have a God given, inalienable and natural right to determine how their children are raised and educated.

Choice in education is a societal positive. It enables parents to send their kids to schools that best align with the values they want their children immersed in, and to choose schools better able to meet their needs, whether they struggle with a learning disability or excel in a particular field and want to pursue specialized learning.

Homeschooling, charter, private and religious schools also often cost taxpayers less money while providing better academic outcomes, which is a rare win-win.

Despite all of this, progressive activists, left-wing politicians, and unions often attack Alberta’s rich history of school choice prosperity by suggesting it somehow undermines public education, and many have plainly stated they want to see public funding withheld from the better performing, more efficient schools altogether. They want to end choice in education.

To learn a little more about the history of our education system and to set the facts straight, Adam was joined by the executive director of the Alberta Parent’s Union Jeff Park.
