Clear Cut: Exploring the Ambiguities in India's Modern Criminal Laws

In India, 3 new criminal laws - the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita & the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam - were said to have come into effect in July 2024. And while some may question whether this is just old wine in a new bottle, the laws have left some to ponder the complexities of what's been amended and updated. When definitive answers can't be offered, what about raising critical questions? Can the implications of these new laws be looked at while divorcing their political intricacies? And with these new legal reforms, should India be looking to have a future where increased legal restrictions lead to a higher incarceration rate? In this episode of CAM Radio - Clear Cut, we are happy to share insights from the recent session on 3 new laws hosted by us. Justice Gautam Patel, our keynote speaker explores whether there may be obscure phrasing in India's new laws, whether the previous criminal statutes in India were all that colonial, issues that may emerge with the advent of technology being leveraged and integrated, whether economic security issues should fall under the cohort of terr*rism and more. Tune in for upcoming episodes on 3 new criminal laws
