In this packed episode, Patrick shares the underestimated power of breathing. He talks about some of the most common breathing issues facing adults and offers critical breathing techniques to address these health issues, especially anxiety, depression, stress, and pain.

Patrick discusses the difference between having a formal breathing practice and an informal practice offers some crucial points on deciding what kind of breathing practice to do and when.

He also explains how people can deal with the increasing reality of stress, overwhelm, and burnout that often leads to breathing too much and too fast, exacerbating or even at the root cause of a myriad of health issues. Finally, he offers some practice breathing tips and suggestions to support down-regulating our nervous system and stimulating the vagus nerve and parasympathetic response.

Patrick shares the vital role that health and wellness professionals, including doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, trainers, and yoga teachers, play in improving patient and student outcomes with breath training.

Patrick also weighs in on fast breathing techniques often practiced in yoga and other disciplines and how the Buteyko method can support people in calming and balancing the stimulating effects of rapid breathing techniques.

Finally, Patrick discusses using breathing techniques in emergencies such as the one Sienna’s found herself in during a recent trip to the emergency room.
