In this episode by La Leche League (LLLGB), volunteer breastfeeding counsellors Maria Yasnova and Sarah Fletcher, along with our super boss host baby Hector, welcome Zarina Ayyub to discuss her own breastfeeding experience as a young mother in the South Asian Community.
We were blown away with her reflections on how she persevered with breastfeeding, found her voice as a mother and went on to support and empower other mothers in her role as a Doula.
When breastfeeding is proving to be difficult and stressful, the challenging times may have a lasting impact on mothers’ confidence. We discus the need to create the safe and supportive environment around new mothers right from the start, tapping into the ancient tradition of the first 40 days or the ‘fourth trimester’ practiced by many cultures around the world to this day.
A holistic model of support offered by LLL is discussed and the listeners are encouraged to reach out to LLLGB if breastfeeding support and information is needed.
LLLGB is a charity that offers mother to mother and parent to parent support for breastfeeding and chestfeeding. The charity was founded by seven mothers in 1956 and since then has accumulated a wealth of knowledge that is now supported by the latest scientific evidence and research.
