Silent Struggles: Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Uganda's LGBTQI Community

In this powerful episode, we delve into the harsh realities of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Uganda, with a particular focus on its devastating impact on the LGBTQI community. Despite progress in some areas, LGBTQI individuals in Uganda continue to face significant threats to their safety, dignity, and basic human rights especially with the new Anti Homosexuality law #AHA. We explore personal stories, expert insights, and the brave activism that is striving to create a safer, more inclusive society. Join us as we shed light on the challenges, resilience, and hope within Uganda's LGBTQI community in the face of adversity.

"GBV is a critical problem in Uganda. The National Survey on Violence in Uganda reported that 95% of Ugandan women had experienced physical and/or sexual violence (Uganda Bureau of Statistics, 2021). In 2021, the gender state minister said that GBV led to at least 168 deaths during the previous year" (Nabatanzi, 2021).
