E7: How Vertical Farms are changing the food we eat... w. Alexander Olesen, Founder of Babylon Microfarms 🔥

Welcome back my peoples! BraveNewEarth is back with another Climate Tech rockstar.

This episode, we talk about an incredible solution to the challenges we face in our agricultural systems - Vertical Farming! In this episode, we're diving into the environmental issues caused by the agricultural sector today and how vertical farming solutions can help tackle them.

Agriculture accounts for roughly 24% of global greenhouse gas emissions - more than the entire transportation sector. And with the world's population projected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, the pressure on our traditional farming methods is only going to increase. Vertical farming may just be the solution we've been looking for. By growing crops indoors using LED lighting and hydroponic systems, vertical farms use significantly less water and pesticides compared to traditional farming methods. Plus, they don't require the use of land and can produce crops year-round.

Some estimates suggest that vertical farms could produce up to 30 times the yield per square foot compared to traditional farming methods. And with vertical farms able to be located closer to urban areas, it would also reduce the carbon footprint of transporting produce.

In this episode, I'm hugely honoured to be joined by the founder of Babylon Microfarms. Babylon Microfarms is a company that specializes in vertical farming technology. The company was founded by Alex Olesen. The company's mission is to make fresh, healthy, and sustainable produce available to everyone, everywhere by using vertical farming technology. Babylon Microfarms focuses on creating vertical farm systems that are easy to use, scalable and affordable. Their technology can grow up to 10 times more produce per square foot than traditional farming methods, using 95% less water and no pesticides. They also claim that their technology can be used to grow a wide variety of crops, and can be used in both urban and rural areas.

Vertical farming may just be the key to feeding a growing population while also reducing our impact on the environment. Be sure to like, comment and subscribe for more episodes on Climate Tech Businesses and other innovative solutions to tackle climate change. Thanks for listening!
