Box 2 - Episode 46: Roy Dickinson

In the latest episode of 'Box Two', which is brought to you in association with our partners Best Western GB, Jamie Jones-Buchanan speaks to legendary former Leeds player Roy Dickinson. Both proud Bramley lads, Roy grew up watching the Leeds teams of the late 1950s and 60s before coming through the Colts system at the club to play for his hometown club between 1972 and 1986, making 303 appearances in the front row in a brutal era in the sport. He established himself in the position while still a teenager. He played in the first Premiership final as an 18 year old and became a fixture about the place greeting all with his welcoming grin which belied his on field role. Always seemingly happy go lucky, he knew he had and relished the toughest of jobs and was always prepared to listen and learn from those more experienced and hardened around him. He bridged the gap between the old fashioned enforcer and the impact front rower off the bench – which was best seen at Wembley in 1978 when he made a big difference sustaining the comeback. A genuine club man and real player’s player.
