The calves and other parts of the lower legs have a special purpose to act as fluid pumps to circulate fluid in the body as it fights gravity's effects on us being upright.  Carol is presenting with fluid buildup in the legs, which is causing problems in other parts of the body.  The most noticeable time is during yoga.
