200 BM Daily Vocabulary #69 | retrospective

Today’s word is: retrospective –The meaning of retrospective is: looking back or dealing with past events or situations; an exhibition of work done by an artist over many years.

In this English vocabulary lesson, you will learn how to use the word retrospective. We are sure that this ESL lesson will help you to enhance your English vocabulary and speak English fluently and confidently.

Example number 1 of 8: Martha was given a sales target for the newly launched beauty products by her company. Her efforts paid off (gave results) and the sales volume almost doubled. The owner of the company was ecstatic and he increased Martha’s salary with retrospective effect for the last three months.

Example number 2 of 8: The museum held a retrospective of the paintings by Picasso. It was a rare opportunity and thousands of visitors came to the museum.

Example number 3 of 8: Mr. Gokhale is a scholar of ancient texts. His research suggests that some of the gadgets used today by us were already used in historic times. To support his claims, he has found retrospective references in books written hundreds of years ago.

Example number 4 of 8: There are several old vehicles releasing heavy smoke and polluting air. This has affected air quality and people suffer from breathing-related diseases.
Thankfully, in many cities, the traffic police have issued circulars penalizing such vehicles from retrospective effect.

Example number 5 of 8: A new school opened in the neighborhood. Soon, all seats were filled up with students. However, six months later, the school revised the fees retrospectively. Naturally, the parents were upset and they registered a protest with the principal.

Example number 6 of 8: Mr. Benjamin, the chief auditor found various errors in the agreements made with the suppliers. He presented the details to the board of directors. The board immediately ordered a thorough (means complete) retrospective inspection of all agreements.

Example number 7 of 8: Both world wars resulted in the invention of several weapons of mass destruction. (means destruction on a large scale). This week, the national art gallery is organizing a retrospective of short films made about these weapons.

Example number 8 of 8: The recent Goa music festival included a 24 hours non-stop musical extravaganza. The organizers paid tribute to the maestro R D Burman by playing a retrospective of his musical work.
