Simone Biles and Shacarri Richardson: Black Community At War With Mental Health

For many years we have downplayed each other’s mental health issues.  We have seen celebrities harm themselves or worse from the stress of the limelight.  Where is the community black world?

In this episode, Quenise and Brandon share their thoughts on the bigger issue with mental health in the community. Our celebrities and even our own families are crying out for help and we dismiss them and tell them to “pray about it”.  They also tell personal stories of struggling with mental health issues and helpful resources to seek help.

If you have an opinion on how we downplay mental health in the black community, don’t miss this episode!

What you will learn in this episode:

  • How to help someone struggling with mental health issues
  • The benefits of self care (types of self care)
  • Some mental health issues cannot be resolved with prayer
  • We must practice self-preservation before we give to others

Three TOP Takeaways

  • Our celebrities are human and need help too
  • As black people our trauma runs deep through generations (100s of years)
  • Seeking help for mental health is not weak.
