How to talk to your children about Black Lives Matter

Jonathan Overend (BBC Radio 5 Live) and Deborah James (You, Me and the Big C) hear from listeners Helena, who is mixed-race, and her teenage daughter Minnie. Helena moved from Kent to London so that Minnie could grow up in a more multicultural setting. They share their reflections on the Black Lives Matter protests that Minnie has been attending. Helena explains why grounding children in black history is so vital to understanding the pain of the present situation. They are joined by Leon Hady, a mixed-race educational consultant. He gives some practical advice for parents on questions they, and their children, should be asking themselves when it comes to their views on race and explains how white people can become better ‘allies.’
