Wish Dragon is a computer-animated fantasy written and directed by Chris Applehans and produced by Jackie Chan. Applehans is an illustrator, production designer, and film director from Idaho. He’s best known for his children’s book illustrations and his work on Wish Dragon, City of Ember, and Coraline. Wish Dragon is about a college student named Din who is longing to reconnect with his childhood friend LiNa. When he meets a wish-granting dragon he discovers the magic of possibilities. If I had to compare Wish Dragon with other films I would say that it’s Aladdin meets A Christmas Carol. Confused? Well, let me explain. Our main character Din is a lower-class college teen trying to reconnect with his rich childhood best friend. He feels like he can’t get access to her unless he looks like he has money. Here is where our wish dragon comes into play. See? Aladdin. The subplot of the story deals with the Wish Dragon Long needing to find the true meaning of a good life. Kinda like how Ebeneezer Scrooge had to recount his life to find his missteps and become a good person. In Wish, Dragon Long explores Din’s life to find the things he’d been missing in his previous life.
