Connie Mack started playing baseball before electric light was invented, and by the time he retired from the game, baseball had been played at night, under lights for nearly 2 decades. His career started before Cy Young in 1890 threw his first big league pitch and it ended after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947. His love for the game echoed that of a nation that was growing and expanding through the decades, and all the while, Connie Mack was there bringing baseball to the masses with a kind, soft spoken approach in a full suit and tie.
