Welcome back to Beyond the Workout! I’m your host, Josh Poon, a certified personal trainer, professional actor, and budding entrepreneur. In this show, we’ll talk about bite-sized fitness tips and explore topics on mindset and philosophy, helping you strengthen both your body AND your mind. Today’s fitness tip is all about the importance of consistency in your workout routine and the benefits it brings.
Fitness Tip of the Day: Consistency
- Quote: "A bad program done consistently will bring you far better results than the optimal program done once in a while." — Sal DiStefano
- Common Struggles: Time, motivation, not seeing results
- Benefits of Consistency:
Strategies for Staying Consistent:
- Start Small: Commit to the easiest thing you can do consistently. If you feel like doing more in the moment, go ahead.
- Calendar Commitment: Put your workout in your calendar as a non-negotiable appointment, like a doctor’s visit or an important meeting.
- Track Progress: Find ways to track progress, such as progress pics, tracking weight increases, or waistline measurements.
- Enjoyable Activities: Find activities you enjoy. If you like running, run. If you enjoy pickleball, play pickleball. Just incorporate some form of resistance training.
Personal Experience:
- When I prioritize exercise and make it a non-negotiable part of my day, I see the best results. When life gets busy and I let my routine slip, I feel weaker, my energy and sleep suffer, and my appetite decreases.
