International Development and Diplomacy Series: Gender Equality and the Gendered Implications of Climate Change
Episode 1: On Gender Equality and the Gendered Implications of Climate Change
This episode brings together two of UNA-Canada’s International Youth Internship Programme’s (IYIP) recent alumni. Ayak Wel, who interned with WFP Philippines as their Gender Equality intern, and Rayane Chbeir, who interned with UNCDF Fiji as their Inclusive Insurance intern. With facilitation from the IYIP Project Officer Megan McGeough, the speakers explore the gendered implications and effects of climate change, both in the Philippines and in Fiji. A particular focus is made to food security, and the impacts that climate disasters have on food insecurity, as well as the integration of female small- agricultural business owners into the market within Fiji through digital, financial inclusion. Alumni also reflect on their internship journey, and discuss critiques and queries on the modern, westernized system of international development, and the need to move towards regional partnerships.
