7. Is Limbic System Impairment Contributing to Your Chronic Symptoms? With Lindsay Mitchell

Oftentimes, inflammation lies at the heart of chronic disease. Those people suffering from a chronic illness or symptoms have ongoing inflammation due to various factors and for certain patients, many treatment modalities do not help them. This segment of the patient population suffering from chronic disease often has Limbic system impairment which means the sympathetic nervous system is dominant, inhibiting bodily systems from functioning at optimal capacity.

For these individuals, brain or nervous system retraining is necessary, helping to facilitate a parasympathetic reset allowing healing to take place. The parasympathetic system helps us enter a state of rest-and-digest, through which we can make positive changes to our brains that result in greater health, diminishing symptoms, and increased resilience to stress. Recent scientific research has discovered that the brain is constantly experiencing new neural activity throughout our entire lives. This concept is known as neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to change, re-organize, and adapt. It is at the core of Lindsay’s mission.

We discuss:

  • Lindsay’s health journey with chronic disease and what led her to focus on brain retraining.
  • What is Limbic System impairment and brain retraining and how this is done.
  • How to approach patients with difficult-to-treat chronic conditions that aren’t improving.
  • How to understand neuroplasticity, in other words, making changes to your brain.
