Ep. 20 – Dr. Fredric Mau | Mastering the Mind: The Power of Hypnosis
George Fredric Mau is a licensed clinical mental health counselor in private practice in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. He holds Doctor of Ministry, Master of Arts in Professional Counseling, and Master of Divinity Degrees. Dr. Mau is an international keynote speaker, and has spoken at conferences in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Australia.
In additional to his active private counseling practice, Dr. Mau serves as Core Faculty for Graduate Medical Education in the Psychiatry Residency Training Program at the William J McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility. In this role he trains psychiatric residents (physicians) in psychotherapy.
As part of a multidisciplinary team with Clemson University and Prisma Health Dr. Mau is an investigator in a randomized controlled trial exploring the efficacy of virtual reality assisted guided imagery in a home setting for pain management in patients with active cancer. Dr. Mau is responsible for the psychological content of the protocol, which was published in the British Medical Journal.
Dr. Mau’s professional awards include the HypnoScience Award, given by International Hypnosekongress in Zürich, Switzerland, the Hypnosis Research Award and induction into the Order of Braid by the National Guild of Hypnotists, and he was recognized as the Outstanding Counselor in his state by the South Carolina Counseling Association.
He is the author of three books, Emotion: The Power of Change: A Science-based Approach to Ericksonian Hypnosis, A Different Reality: Adventures in Narrative Therapy & a Protocol to Address Anxiety Disorders and Insomnia, and The Relaxation-Based Pain Relief Training Manual, all of which received the Pen & Quill Award from the International Association of Counselors and Therapists and the International Medical and Dental Hypnosis Association for excellence in literary contributions. Dr. Mau also wrote the Introduction in Sollmann, C. (Ed.) Klinische Hypnotherapie - Methoden, Anwendung, Entwicklung (Clinical Hypnotherapy - Methods, Application, Development) the book will be published in German by Kohlhammer Verlag, spring 2024.
