Episode 6: By Virtue of the Vicious

On the season finale of Beautiful Garbage we reach a crossroads road for punk, as Kevin details the late 70’s period that split the genre into smaller sub-genres. In this episode, By Virtue of the Vicious, we’ll take a look at some of the most quintessential moments of the definitive era until it’s death on a 1978 evening in San Francisco. From the Sex Pistols destroying their new label’s office to The Slits tearing down both stylistic and gender norms in punk, we’ll examine the ins and outs of punk’s international revolution.

In this episode, Kevin examines the impact of some of the most influential bands of the late 1970’s including The Buzzcocks, the Sex Pistols, and The Slits. You’ll hear about Malcolm McLaren’s ingenious marketing strategies for the Sex Pistols, as well as the Dead Boys’ rowdy revival of the early punk aesthetics of Iggy Pop and the Stooges.

Beautiful Garbage is brought to you by Osiris Media. Written and Narrated by Kevin Hogan. Executive Producer is Adam Caplan. Production, Mastering, and Artwork by Brad Stratton.
