Resource Guarding is when your dog is defending something (anything) with the intent of driving away the would be competitor.
Much of the issue is built around the ill advised notion that you should be able to tear anything away form your dog and they should simply deal with it. Well...then your dog starts to learn, whenever your near my thing, I better drive you away. It builds a defensive reaction which can result in some pretty extreme attacks.
There are even dog sports that use this natural behaviour and they evaluate and score a dog on their ability to fend of would be thieves!
If you have a dog that is exhibiting Resource Guarding, be sure to get in touch with a professional trainer who can both start and stop behaviour in your dog.
