Workout Recovery and Herbal Support
In today’s episode, we discuss our route to recovery. If you are a person who doesn’t put much effort or thought into your recovery plan, you may start to see the adverse effects of this in the gym. Listen in for tactics you can incorporate easily to make your next workout a strong one! Hydrate, sleep, and stretch! If you aren’t doing these core recovery practices, it is time to start. Inflammation is a big buzz word when talking about recovery but not all inflammation is the same. Choosing herbs based on the energetics of your body is important. When choosing herbs for recovery focus on: 1. The goal- what are you trying to support in the body ? 2. Energetics of your body, is the natural state hot, cold, tense? Maybe damp? 3. Herbal affinity drivers- where is the healing going to happen? Some Herbs mentioned : Wild lettuce Lactuca virosa , wild lettuce is often referred to as “opium lettuce” due to its purported pain-relieving qualities! It is a plant in the Lactuca genus; the extract is often ingested for its mild analgesic and sedative effects. Marshmallow root is rich in both polysaccharides and starch. When made using the cold infusion method, the healing polysaccharides are the primary component that gets extracted. Self-heal has a mildly bitter taste and is cooling and drying to the body. The physical body acts as an astringent, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, mild antiseptic, detoxifier, diuretic, hemostatic, and vulnerary (a substance used to help heal external wounds).
