During the ancient times in East Asia, people had conservative mindsets which extended to the treatment of female patients – many male doctors did not want to treat female patients!   This meant it was important to have female doctors, and Tan Yunxian was the most famous ancient Chinese female doctor out there.   A Chinese TV show “The Imperial Doctress” was made in 2016 based off Tan Yunxian. In the show, Tan works as a doctor inside the Imperial Palace and becomes entangled in a love triangle with two Chinese princes.   But what was the real Tan Yunxian like? Did she treat the royal family, or did she treat people from all walks of life?
