USA- Mexico Border Wall & Human Crisis by Laurie Smith
Laurie Smith, born and raised in El Paso, Texas, is a Denver-based photographer and art activist who has spent over 30 years capturing culture, food, and travel in a reportage style. While her work has been featured in major publications like 5280 Magazine, Food & Wine, Sunset, and Saveur, her focus in the past six years has been on a more urgent and deeply personal subject—the U.S.–Mexico border.
Through her lens, Laurie takes us beyond the border wall that divides two nations, documenting the raw human stories unfolding in its shadow. She seeks to evoke compassion, giving a face to the individuals caught in the relentless migrant crisis. Her photography challenges indifference, compelling us to confront the moral and social divide surrounding immigration. By witnessing her work, we are called not just to see—but to act, to engage in meaningful dialogue, and to push for humane, fact-based solutions in a time of escalating division.
