Gitanjali J B is the co-founder and CEO of Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), which she co-founded with Sonam Wangchuk in Ladakh. HIAL aims to develop Ladakh into a benchmark for sustainable economic living in the mountain world, where all children receive a meaningful education that prepares them for a life of dignity in harmony with nature. HIAL's programmes focus on innovation and social entrepreneurship through projects like Responsible tourism farm stays, solar passive architecture, Ice Stupa project and the HILLs fellowship for youth from mountain communities.

An entrepreneur turned educator, Gitanjali is passionate about creating an environment that empowers learners and facilitators to become the best versions of themselves. Gifted in multiple disciplines such as business, education, performing and martial arts, she believes that human beings can continue to grow into multi-faceted individuals throughout their lives, and education aims to instil this lifelong quest for learning and progress.
