From Guidance to Ego Satisfaction!

When parents or caregivers work with children, especially those with special needs, their primary objective is to help the child learn new skills and gain independence. This includes teaching the child how to eat on their own or try new foods, which can significantly support their growth and development.
However, it is not uncommon for parents to lose patience during this process, especially when progress seems slow or when the child resists new tasks. In such moments, frustration can lead to a shift in focus—parents may become more concerned with asserting control or “winning” the situation rather than prioritizing the child’s learning and emotional well-being. This approach can be harmful and counterproductive in the long run.
Parents may unconsciously focus on their own emotional needs, such as feeling in control or forcing the child to comply, rather than recognizing the child’s needs. This often stems from frustration or a desire to avoid perceived failure. The Bhagavad Gita addresses this tendency when it says:
“सर्वे गुणा: कर्मसिद्धि: सर्वं प्रपद्यते।”
(Bhagavad Gita)
-All actions are influenced by nature’s gunas (qualities); the goal should be to align one’s actions with a higher purpose, not out of personal ego.
