AT THE MOVIES WITH CHARLOTTE AND BRON is a playful celebration of Australian cinema through a feminist, queer, POC lens.

Bron is an arts producer, so she knows a lot about site specific cross-disciplinary emerging and immersive experiential performance in large scale festival contexts - but nothing about Liam Hemsworth. Charlotte is an actress who once played Girl At Party Hitting On Liam Hemsworth but gets nervous at real parties that someone will find out that she’s never seen Citizen Kane.

Best friends for over a decade, Charlotte and Bron now run film company TOUGH CROWD, and want to learn everything there is to know about Australian cinema.

At The Movies with Charlotte and Bron
Mad Max

In our blockbuster length Season 1 finale, Charlotte Nicdao and Bron Belcher discuss one of Australia's most influential films: MAD MAX (1979). We talk about George Millers thematically bonkers filmography, Charlotte breaks down her acting method and what method acting even is, and Bron shivers at the thought of whole body scabification.

The Castle

This episode we welcome guest, and darling of the Australian indie scene, Thom Green to help us gush over everyone's favourite Australian film: THE CASTLE (1997). Along with hosts Charlotte Nicdao and Bron Belcher we chat real estate, how to make something enduring on a budget, and Charlotte has a Hot Take that everybody hates.

Babe

Charlotte Nicdao and Bron Belcher break down family classic BABE (1995), which we decide by the end of the episode - despite it's American accents - is definitely an Australian film. We discuss Bron's Irish Dancing origin story, get hysterical about the animal training methods utilised on set, and plan a gritty prequel: Sheep Be True.

Two Hands

This episode welcomes our first guest to the pod: actor, dad, and Australian film enthusiast Alfred Nicdao! Together he and our hosts discuss the indie masterpiece TWO HANDS (1999) which would've been the film to put our Heath Ledger on the map if it weren't for that other film that he filmed the same year (10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU). We swoon over Heath, Rose Byrne and of course our favourite bad boy Bryan Brown.

Crocodile Dundee

Charlotte and Bron breakdown the film that still has every American telling us what a knife is and isn't: CROCODILE DUNDEE (1986). A chaotic chapter in their journey to learn more about Australian film, this analysis takes our intrepid hosts on an appropriately themed enemies-to-lovers relationship with the Paul Hogan led classic.

Australia

In the first episode of their quest to learn more about Australian film, Charlotte Nicdao and Bron Belcher breakdown Baz Luhrmann's visual feast AUSTRALIA (2008).

They ask questions like "Is Bryan Brown the hottest bad boy of Australian cinema?", "Is this kiss between Our Nicole and Our Hugh really weird?", and "Are all the Wizard of Oz references supposed to be Wizard of AUS references?". They don't guarantee any answers.
