පේරාදෙණිය විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයේ විද්‍යා පශ්චාත් උපාධි ආයතනයේ නැනෝ තාක්ෂණය හා ද්‍රව්‍ය විද්‍යාව පිලිබඳ පර්යේෂණ කරන හා එහි ජ්‍යෙෂ් කථිකාචාර්යවරයෙක් ලෙස සේවය කරන ආචාර්ය ප්‍රසංග මන්තිලක සමග කෙරෙන සංවාදය. මෙහිදී ආචාර්ය මන්තිලක දැනට සිදුකරගෙන යන ලංකාවේ ඛනිජ වලින් සිදුකරන අගය එකතු කල නිෂ්පාදන ගැනත් ඒ ඔස්සේ ආරම්භ කර ඇති කර්මාන්ත පිළිබඳවත් සාකච්ඡා කෙරේ. එමෙන්ම සිසුන් තමන්ගේ පර්යේෂණයක් හෝ අදහසක් වෙළඳපොල නිපැයුමක් දක්වා ගෙනයන්නේ කෙසේද යන්න පිළිබඳවත් වැඩි අවදානයක් යොමු වේ. ආචාර්ය මන්තිලක SLINTEC ආයතනයේ advanced materials research අංශයේ ප්‍රධාන පර්යේෂකයෙකු ලෙසද සේවය කර ඇති අතර dolomite, calcite, apatite, ilmenite, monazite, iron-bearing minerals, zircon, හා graphite යන ඛනිජ ආශ්‍රිතව පර්යේෂණ සිදුකර ඇත. මෙතෙක් ඔහු විවිධ යෙදුම් සඳහා නැනෝ ද්‍රව්‍ය සංස්ලේෂණය කිරීමට නව සරල හා ලාභදායි ක්‍රමවේදයන් වැඩි දියුණු කර ඇත. ඔහු නැනෝ-ජලභීතික හා තෙල් විකර්ෂක පෘෂ්ඨ නිර්මාණය සඳහා ද කටයුතු කරයි.
Today we talk with Dr. Prasanga Mantilaka, a senior Lecturer and postgraduate supervisor at the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He was a Senior Research Scientist and leader of the advanced materials research area of Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) before. His major research area is the synthesis of nanomaterials for industrial, environmental, and medical applications using cheap raw materials including naturally occurring minerals such as dolomite, calcite, apatite, ilmenite, monazite, iron-bearing minerals, zircon, and graphite. So far, he has developed many novel simple, and economical techniques to synthesize nanomaterials for various applications. He is also working on the fabrication of nano-architectured super-hydrophobic and oil-repellent surfaces.
