Marko is an early career researcher who has been studying and working in the field of geomatics since 14 years old. Born and raised in Zagreb, Croatia, Marko moved to Melbourne in late 2019 after being awarded a full scholarship to undertake his PhD at the University of Melbourne, Department of Infrastructure Engineering. His areas of expertise include reality capturing, Mixed Reality localisation, Remote Sensing, and spatial data integration, and he is actively investigating how Machine and Deep Learning can be used to resolve challenges in those fields. Marko’s PhD work proposing innovative use of Deep Learning solutions in localization and spatial data integration sparked interest from research and industry partners, such as Heritage Victoria and the University of Adelaide. His project proposal on visualizing Digital Twins using Mixed Reality was recognized by the Building 4.0 CRC, which awarded him a top-up scholarship, multiple additional grants, and involved him in numerous industry projects. When he is not working, Marko does hobby electronics and woodworking, swims, plays water polo or video games, reads, or meditates.
