Capitalism Can’t Save Us: how Marx’s economics explain today's crisis

Michael Roberts kicks off the monthly 'Marx Matters' event series - was Nye Bevan right, wrong, or both when he said “Marxism put into the hands of the working class movement... the most complete blueprints for political action the world has ever seen?”

Michael worked in the City of London as an economist for over 40 years. He has closely observed the machinations of global capitalism from within the dragon’s den. At the same time, he was a political activist in the labour movement for decades. Since retiring, he has written several books including The Great Recession – a Marxist view (2009); The Long Depression (2016); Marx 200: a review of Marx’s economics (2018).

Marx Matters is a series of in-person and online talks from prominent writers on Marxism exploring the relevance of Marx's work today. You can buy a ticket to help fund the whole series here: https://bit.ly/MarxMattersTickets

Organised by volunteers from Arise, a festival of left ideas', it is designed to give socialists taking up struggle today a deeper understanding of the tools Marx and Engels gave activists to understand the political, economic and social world around them, and how to advance the cause of humanity.
