EP002 | ENGLISH | DAVID RIFKIND: ARCHITECT & HISTORIAN

David Rifkind is a savvy academic who teaches Architectural History and Theory. Currently, he is an Associate professor, Interim Landscape chair at Florida International University. His interests focus on creating harmony between the surrounding environment and the impact of people in it. The way he teaches brings excitement, wonder, and interaction among peers and is celebrated because it brings out that inner child that makes you curious as to what else you can learn from him. He has been the recipient of the James Ackerman Award in the history of architecture and the Journal of Architectural Education (JAE).

Even after all his accolades he still remains humble and curious to learn about the world. His views on design and modernization within an urban fabric comes from his constant research on how politics in design affect progress. He is a mentor to many. Myself included! His knowledge of history leaves anyone who listens to him as passionate for design as he is. How he interacts with the scholar narrative throughout the years has helped him develop a pedagogy on how to get the most of the student body and help them get inspired. In this episode, we will talk about the importance of retaining passion/wonder with the design narrative as a means to create a better direction in the design field.
