Amid WWII, a fleet of blimps would be assigned the mission of patrolling the West Coast of California for Japanese submarines. These missions were largely uneventful until August 16th, 1942 when two experienced pilots would set out on a routine patrolling mission and never be seen again. The blimp, however, was a different story.
