Letter to the Ephesians 5:22-6:9

Speaker: Robert Lee

In this episode, we dive into Ephesians 5:22–6:9 and explore what it means for every relationship in our lives to be lived under the umbrella of our relationship with God. Paul reminds us that the “fear of the Lord” — a deep reverence and desire not to grieve His Spirit — is what anchors marriages, families, workplaces, and the church.

We wrestle with the hard truth that if we claim to love God yet refuse reconciliation with people, our love for Him is called into question (1 John 4:20; Matthew 5:23–24). The gospel invites us into union with Christ, and that union transforms how we treat others — in marriage, in parenting, in our jobs, and in the church. Mutual submission, sacrificial leadership, sincere obedience, and honoring one another flow naturally when we truly value our relationship with God above all else.

We also unpack how the enemy distorts fear, turning it into something destructive, while the true fear of the Lord brings wisdom (Proverbs 9:10), life (Proverbs 14:27), and intimacy with God. Marriage itself is revealed as a temporary but powerful picture of Christ’s eternal covenant with His bride, the Church — a mystery that points us to our ultimate union with Him.

Finally, we consider what a response looks like: cultivating a holy reverence for God, repenting where we’ve lived for man’s approval, restoring broken relationships, and practicing forgiveness. Because when our relationship with God is our highest treasure, every other relationship comes into proper alignment.
