In this episode, we continue our series in Ephesians 5:1–21 by exploring what it means to be friends with Holy Spirit. While salvation makes us sons and daughters of God, true friendship with Holy Spirit is something we intentionally cultivate. Paul’s words in Ephesians outline how believers can follow Him, discover what He loves, and live with understanding of His desires.
We unpack seven marks of friendship with Holy Spirit—living in His love, giving thanks continually, attending to His desires, walking in His wisdom, singing to Him and with one another, practicing gentleness in humility, and reverencing God with holy fear.
Through passages like John 14:15–18 and Romans 8:14, we learn that though we are never abandoned by Holy Spirit, we can grieve Him and interrupt our closeness if we value His promises above His presence. Friendship with Holy Spirit means maturing into daily, continual relationship, not merely enjoying God’s benefits.
Our response is to repent where we’ve loved blessings more than God Himself, and to intentionally “put on” His love, thanksgiving, wisdom, songs, humility, and reverence. By setting our minds on Him throughout the day, we move from living as orphans to walking as true sons and daughters led by the Spirit of God.
