
Violence and Technology
Episode Description: Host Jamie Kynn discusses technology-based abuse and its role on campus. Dr. Erica Fissel, University of Central Florida assistant professor of criminal justice and violence researcher, join the discussion. Together, they review the ways an abuser can use technology to manipulate, control, and otherwise harm their victims, the barriers to reporting this type of abuse to the authorities, and how to best protect yourself from this form of abuse.

Host Bio: Jamie Kynn (they/them) is a doctoral student in the School of Social Work at Michigan State University. Jamie received their MA in Gender Studies from Central European University, and their MSW from Rutgers University. Jamie’s research interests include sexual and gender minority youth and the role of involvement in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems as sites of institutional betrayal. With a background in policy evaluation, their research interrogates systemic oppression as it manifests through inter-institutional practices and policies to promote systems change. Their work focuses on producing translational research and developing non-academic research dissemination media.
Name note: At the time of recording the Center for Research on Ending Violence (REV) was still using their former name, the Center on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). Over the course of 2020 – 2022, the Center underwent a thorough renaming process.
