My guests are usually from the worlds of health, beauty, hair, aesthetics and wellness, and this week we’ve sort of ‘massaged’ the criteria to stretch the wellness part to include fitness. Well, it is January afterall…
Ultra-athelete John O’Regan has participated in some of the toughest, longest, most challenging events in the world. I say running, but when you’re trying to cover 250 km over sand dunes, or some other crazy distance across the Antarctic, it’s a different kettle of fish.
John has so many incredible stories to tell of his experiences… of being self-sufficient for a week covering 250km in the dessert… of mind-bending 24-hour races where competitors just circle a 400-metre running track over and over and over… And yet, John has huge empathy and understanding on how to get running… how to complete that first 5k… how to build a passion with running and how to improve performance, literally from a standing start.
So, if 2024 is the year you’re thinking of lacing up your trainers, or the year you’ve signed up for something that’s slightly terrifying you… you’ve come to the right place, to listen to the right man.
This conversation was so good, and covered so much ground (bad pun not intended), myself and producer Fergh actually lost track of time. But rather than cut it short, we’ve decided to make it a two-parter. Both parts have plenty of stories and anecdotes from life – quite literally – in the extreme lane, as well as plenty of tips to get you up and moving, or moving faster. Whichever. Or both!
