As big data and data security have grown in the past decade, the federal government has been “reluctant to get involved,” says Jon Bigelow, past president and current board member of the Association of Medical Media. He says many of the companies involved in data are monopolies, yet the government has “not taken the same anti-trust stance as it did previously with Standard Oil, the railroads, or Bell breakups.”
