From PlayStation VR to Realized Realities: A Journey Through the World of XR with Jed Ashforth

For our first video episode on our podcast for the XR week we invited Jed Ashforth, an independent XR Consultant and Trainer, and a world-class specialist in the fields of Immersive Design, Immersive Narrative, XR User Experience and XR Comfort and Safety. Jed founded the specialist XR consultancy business Realised Realities 2017, with a goal to help clients to realise the true potential of their Virtual Reality experiences. Jed has consulted and advised on over 100 VR, AR and MR projects, and works with creatives and developers from a multitude of disciplines and mediums to help ensure their immersive ambitions are realised to their full potential. Jed was formerly Sony PlayStation’s Immersive Experience Specialist. As a founder member of the PlayStation®VR project, Jed was instrumental in establishing many of the now common foundations of the VR user experience, defining Sony PlayStation’s Best Practices for VR and working with developers across Europe and the US to develop the finer arts of VR content creation.

In this episode, we discuss Jed’s journey from game design to XR, detailing his early experiences with VR technology and the challenges of creating comfortable and engaging VR experiences, as well we discuss his current projects, mentoring work, and his perspective on the current state and future of VR technology, emphasising the importance of accessibility and addressing user comfort issues to drive wider adoption.
