Welcome to "Alternative Realities," the podcast where literally anything goes. Hosted by Megan Aubrey, this is not your average podcast. If you're not an average person, then you're in the right place. This space is for free and open discussion on everything that moves us along this twisted road we call life.
Megan starts off the series with a little bit of an introduction and a vibe check, inviting you to get to know her better before embarking on this journey together. She expresses her appreciation for your listenership and asks for a little extra patience as she finds her voice and figures out how to best serve you as a listener and new friend.
Megan talks about how she first tried to put herself out there on TikTok, but quickly realized that the pressure to look a certain way in each video was taking away from the most important part: what she was saying. She struggled to be raw and authentic while still trying to be relevant to what's trending or popular, and also tried to fit into a "niche" which is a concept she personally dislikes. She believes that creativity shouldn't be constricted into a specific box or theme.
Megan has a unique way of perceiving the world around her, and she first became aware of that while conversing with her ex-boyfriend's dad. Despite coming from different demographics and being raised on opposite sides of the country, they found common ground in realizing that neither of them expected to live past the age of 18. Megan admits that her fear of dying was irrational given her suburban upbringing, but it was still very real to her and had a significant effect on the way she acted out in her high school years. She involved herself in more things and activities than most people do in 70 or 80 years of living.
But once she made it into her 20s, Megan started to feel invincible. There was a shift in her mindset where she had outlived her fear of dying as a kid, and she quickly realized she had arrived at the front door of adulthood with absolutely no plan or even a mere idea of what she wanted to do "for the rest of her life." She almost let that become a new fear, but pattern recognition kicked in to save the day.
Megan admits that the pandemic helped her slow down for a second and evaluate everything that had happened and was going to happen in her life at that point. At first, she was filled with fear of the unknown, like many people were. But she eventually pulled herself away from the never-ending plethora of irrelevant information that was consuming her day in and day out. The feeling of being consumed was killing her, and she had this irrational fear that everyone and everything around her was her enemy. She thought it wasn't "safe" to talk about how she was feeling, but she eventually realized that keeping everything bottled up was not healthy.
Megan encourages listeners to evaluate their own lives and find what's consuming them, and to take steps to pull away from it. She believes that finding common ground with people who are different from you is important, and that we need to listen to each other more. She also believes that the most important thing is to be true to yourself, even if it means going against the grain or not fitting into a specific box or theme.
In "Alternative Realities," Megan promises to explore a wide range of topics and have honest, raw conversations with guests. She believes that life is a twisted road, but it's one that we're all on together. So, buckle up and join her on this journey!
