Jesus prays not only for those disciples who are with Him but also for all who will come to believe in Him through their message, highlighting the importance of unity among believers. This unity is envisioned as mirroring the unity that exists between the Father and the Son, with Jesus praying that all believers may be one, just as He and the Father are one. This unity serves a missional purpose: it is intended as a sign to the world that Jesus was sent by the Father and that the Father's love for Jesus extends to all believers.

The passage underscores the themes of unity, love, and mission. It emphasizes the foundational Christian belief in the relational unity within the Godhead and extends this unity to the relationship between Jesus and His followers, and among the followers themselves. The prayer concludes with Jesus' desire that the love with which the Father has loved Him may be in His followers, and that He Himself may be in them, illustrating the intimate relationship between Jesus, His followers, and the Father.
