“Viva la Colombia!” said the Colombian National Police general over the radio. “Escobar está muerto!”
Special Agents Javier Peña and Steve Murphy were based in Medellín, where the smell of a smoking gun and a fear of a car bomb were everpresent. They spent years tracking down the world’s first ever narcoterrorist; Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria – a man who at his peak supplied 80% of the entire world’s cocaine. That’s eight zero. A man who at his peak had thousands of his ‘sicario’ bodyguards ready to protect him with their lives. A man who at his peak was untouchable, as Steve and Javier know all to well.
Fast forward to his bitter end and Steve Murphy is holding the corpse of a gunned down Escobar on the crimson rooftops of Medellín; a surreal wreck of the kingpin he once was.
These are the men that tracked down Pablo Escobar, and this is their story.
