Maddy loves Al Pacino. Lara is a little unsure what all the fuss is about. They both love movies – and together, they work through the large and extremely varied filmography of one small man considered one of the greats, to try to learn something about acting, about cinema, and about why we love the movie stars we love.

The Cino Awards

It’s Hollywood’s Smallest Night! In a very special episode that emerged from the ashes of another very special episode, Maddy and Lara take a week off from Al Studies to celebrate their favourite performances of the year, the ins and outs of a very strange award season, and the man himself’s history with the Academy.

Digressions include The Irishman, Riverdale, celebrity director couples, Ben Is Back, Jane Campion, and, as always, The Sopranos. Nice boys of varying heights appear throughout, Lara describes innumerable films as 'lovely', and Maddy compares Promising Young Woman to Bulworth.

List of all the films we discussed

Daniel Kaluuya as Parking Pataweyo
Al and Ellen Burstyn at the 1976 BAFTAs
Devin Friedman (GQ) on Al’s ‘Luxury Magician’ award season style
Ryan Coogler and Spike Lee on Chadwick Boseman
Harris Mayersohn (Bright Wall/Dark Room) on the SBC oeuvre
K. Austin Collins’ (Rolling Stone) review of Trial of the Chicago 7
