PROHIBIT PEAT MINING AND RESTORE THE SWEDISH WETLANDS! Sweden has to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases immediately. The first step is that the government prohibits the destructive peat mining and makes sure that these dried wetlands are restored so that they can begin storing CO2 again and flourish with life. It's time to tear up all contracts with foreign companies that are mining peat in Sweden. It's time to pursue climate policy for real. The movement "Restore Wetlands" demands that the government immediately prohibits the destructive peat mining. Land where peat mining has been performed shall immediately be restored to vital, viable wetlands. Earth's surface consists of 3% peatlands. Undisturbed peatlands store more than double the amount of CO2 as all forests in the world combined. Sweden is one of the countries in the world with the highest percentage of peatlands: 15% of the Swedish land is peatland. In Sweden we have in a large part of the country been digging ditches around 70-90% of all wetlands. Peat is Sweden's brown coal. Peat emitts more CO2 than coal, oil and gas when it's mined, burned in a power plant or used as soil in gardens. This is ongoing in the middle of the climate crisis, the biggest disaster in the history of mankind! #climateemergency #climateaction #climatechange #protest
